Sunday – Woodturning
10am – 3pm
The weekend will begin with an introduction to Woodturning. You will be amazed at what is possible in just one session even if you’ve never handled woodworking tools. At the end of this course, even without any previous experience you will take home a beautifully finished hard wood bowl. Starting with a blank of a wood such as Black American Walnut, you will shape the bowl inside and out before applying a range of finishing techniques. Led by Enrique Melin, this workshop has been developed with the help of The Camden Town Shed.
Monday – Chopping Board and Spoon Carving
10am – 5pm
Monday will begin with an introduction to woodwork machinery, taught by woodworker and furniture maker Christina French. You will be shown how to use a range of workshop machinery and equipment. Following a talk on different types and uses of hardwood, you’ll then be able to select your material from our in-house timber store, and design your very own chopping board. With support and guidance from the tutor, you’ll then use our workshop equipment to make your object – providing you with a beautiful personalised project to take home with you!
After a break you will then join furniture designer Lua Garcia for a spoon carving session. Using two different carving knives you will learn the techniques to safely and effectively carve your very own wooden spoon from Sapele wood. Oiling your spoon with a wax and oil mix to finish off your piece before taking it home for your own kitchen or to give as a gift.
All of the wood used to make your objects comes from award winning Saunders Seasonings, who sell high quality hard-wood timber, sourced from trees grown in the heart of London.
We are ensuring limited numbers of people on site at all times and carrying out social distancing measures with additional cleaning in place. All of our teachers will receive training in our new rules and we will be making all attendees aware of how to safely take part at the workshop. If you have your own face covering please bring this with you. We will have some disposable masks should you need one. We will not be providing refreshments so please bring your own soft drinks and/or snacks. The cafe will be open on Saturday but will be closed on Sunday. If you don’t feel well or need to self-isolate, please don’t come to the workshop but let us know as soon as possible and we can discuss options with you.
Refunds and/or changes to ticket are available up to 7 days before course date.
