Kite Activity Kits for Waltham Forest Residents

*NEWSFLASH* We’re pleased to announce the release of an additional 500 kites to coincide with ‘Walthamstow Garden Party In The Air’ produced by the Barbican in partnership with London Borough of Waltham Forest, and with the support of Arts Council England.  From Wednesday 1st July if you missed out on a kit, you’ll be able to register for one here.

KIT KITE is a specially designed activity kit for Waltham Forest’s Virtual Culture programme, giving you the tools and materials to build your very own kite.

Inspired by Japanese kite making traditions, this simple Kimono (sode) kite is made using a lashed stick frame, introducing traditional fastening techniques and light weight parachute material. We challenge you to design, construct and fly your own. Channel your message to the world, dedicate it to your hero and showcase your design and making skills.

We’d say you’re never too old for kites, so whether you build one for yourself, a friend, or come together as a team, register online here from the 1st -15th June and we’ll deliver it to your door.

You then have two weeks to design and make your kite, and upload for display in our online gallery. We’ll be sending you ideas and inspiration along the way as we collectively get to work on creating these flying symbols of hope and freedom.

Take it for a test flight and share your picture with us at #blackhorsekitkite #virtualculture

How to Register:
 – You must be a resident of Waltham Forest to receive a kit.
–  Kits are free but we’re also raising money for local charity Mind Waltham Forest  so if you’re able to make a £1 donation that would be great.
– Kits will be delivered the week of the 13th July by the Zero Emissions Delivery service.
– Please note Kits are limited to one per household and are suitable for children aged +7 upwards.
