Welcome to Wood St

POST_Wood St Coffee_01

Caffeine cravings are a thing of the past here at the workshop thanks to Wood St Coffee who we’re very excited to have now working their coffee bean magic. They’re open weekdays from 8.00am – 5.30pm, and then on Saturdays from 9.30am. You don’t need to be using the workshop to sample their delights, and with free wi-fi, it’s hard to resist.

Coffee enthusiasts will love it, as they’re using Climpsons & Sons beans, and of course sandwiches made using bread supplied by our very own in-house bakers The Fermentarium.

POST_MG_Pencil

Check out these giant HB Pencil lamps designed and created by Michael & George and fabricated by the team here at the workshop. Great to see this weekend they’ve also been selected by The Independent as one of the five fresh faces of London Design Festival. Check out the full article here, visit their website here, or go see them at Tent London.

Pitch Up to Our New Monthly Market

POST_reduced_Blackhorse Market

We’re very excited to be opening up our yard to host a monthly street food and makers market this autumn. To kick start the proceedings, we’re running a special pilot on Saturday 20th September, 10-4pm to coincide with the Open House Architecture Festival. We’re planning a regular showcase of work from our members and other makers alongside activities for kids, good coffee & local produce – promising a good start to any weekend. For the full details, click here.

Tottenham Green Room

POST_Green Room

Amazing what can pop up under your eyes in 2 weeks…We were so pleased to support the build of the Tottenham Green Room – a temporary community events space designed by competition winners Aaron English & Edward Robertson and built by a dedicated team in part at the BH workshop, and assembled down in Tottenham. So don’t miss it if you’re in the area – the space will be up and running with events from Guerrilla Knitting to music performances until the 14th September.

Lola Lely Studio & The Cosmology of St James

LOLA LELY POST_Leather

We’ve been busy working with the Lola Lely Studio  on their commission from The Architecture Foundation in collaboration with the Crown Estate. Lola’s winning design will culminate in a permanent installation at 12, Charles II Street in the West End opening this September. We’ve been fabricating the steel structure from which a series of ‘satellites’ will be suspended made from leather, glass and metal.

Inspiration for the piece has come from an intriguing range of sources, from the area’s former resident Sir Isaac Newton to its long standing tailoring tradition. We can’t wait to see the final piece!

Giddy Round the Garden

WGP_Post 01
WGP_Post 09

It was all about ditching shank’s pony last weekend, and letting the kids canter round the Walthamstow Garden Party  on their own hobby horse steed. Inspired by William Morris’ love of dressing up, we offered a drop-in workshop all weekend for kids to make their own industrial version of the classic wooden toy. Not to mention the rather fabulous hand painted signage for the Useful & Beautiful tent…

WGP_Post 06

The Blackhorse Technician crew were on hand to guide makers each step of the fabrication process, teaching basic woodwork skills from sawing, to sanding, drilling and using a workshop bench. It proved so popular that we’ll be running it again in the autumn down at HQ. Drop us a line if you’re interested.
