Guy Fox Rides the Flames

POST_Bonfire 02

So Mother Nature’s downpour yesterday didn’t stop a great bonfire night in our yard. Thanks to everyone who braved the grizzly rain to come down. Although our hand crafted steel weathervane Guy Fox didn’t quite spin as intended on top of the flames, it was definitely a bonfire to remember.

Thanks to Jen and her food truck FORK for her delicious Pumpkin burgers. Lets hope they don’t disappear for another year!

Faking It

POST_Jesmonite 02 Sample Box

We kicked off the first of our material sessions this week as we invited Tim Sharman from Jesmonite to come and show us the transformative powers of this material. Used across the world in the architecture and film industries, this lightweight material can be cast to replicate stone and metal finishes without the heavy weight of concrete or steel.

POST_Jesmonite 05

Cast in silicon rubber moulds and rapid setting, we had a rubber finish tile knocked out over the course of a lunchtime.

Now for the experimentation! And if you want to see how far it can be pushed, check out the incredible work of Hilda Hellstrom, and her stunning urns: visit

POST_Drinks Cabinet 02

If you’ve got similar projects rattling around in your head, then keep an eye out as next month, we’ll be launching a series of project surgeries where you can speak to a technical expert for advice on the best materials to use, appropriate tooling, and help to map out a project plan to get you started on the road to dream furniture reality!

And from 1st November, we’ll be opening every Sunday, to give you a full weekend to play around with. See you at the bench!

From Blackhorse to Bluecoat

POST_Completed piece

Travelling all the way from Blackhorse Road to Liverpool’s famous arts centre The Bluecoat, we’re really excited to see artist Anne Harild’s stunning piece We Approach in situ.

POST_Harild sculpture Assembly

Built at the workshop over the summer, Harild has been the recipient of the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award residency (ARMA), and developed the sculpture in response to the architecture of the building through a series of workshops with Bluecoat’s weekly programme for artists with learning disabilities.

POST_ Harild_Side Profile

A fantastic contrast of tradition vs contemporary. The commission was installed and built in collaboration with Commissioned by You, a fabrication studio based at Blackhorse Workshop. Congratulations team!
