Introduction to Metalworking Techniques covers an induction in metal work, materials, PPE, gas, electric and sundries.
Day one: Introduction to metalwork area
– Health and safety briefing, Explain marking out and cutting materials.
– Marking out using measuring tapes, squares, vernier callipers, scribes, pens and chalk
– The use of the hack saw, pipe cutter, chop saw, angle grinder, guillotine.
– Drilling using pillar drill and hand drill.
Folding, rolling and forming:
– Moving on from the first week of cutting participants will cut lengths to roll on the progressive rollers, pipe benders, sheet folder and roller.
– Folding thicker material by scoring using an angle grinder. Folding thin sheet material by scoring.
Day two: Welding – MiG and TiG
– Health and safety introduction to welding. Correct PPE, use, setup and close down.
– Demo in MiG followed by practice.
– Demo in TiG followed by practice.
Hot Works:
– Health and Safety introduction to gas bottles, correct PPE, use, setup and close-down procedures.
– Demo of hot works forming using the anvil, vice and hammer. Followed by practice.
– Demo of brazing/hard soldering. Followed by practice.
Appropriate footwear must be worn for welding, leather shoes or boots or steel toe cap boots. Trainers are not suitable.
