This 5-week course will teach you how to make your own personalised modular frame unit for your home or office. Working with hand tools you will learn how to mark out and cut an oak frame to size, and construct it with the choice of mitre or butt joint. Measure out and assemble ash dowels, and decide which components you want to make for your unit – small picture ledges or shelves, plant pot, stationery box, mirror ledge. The project has been designed to be adaptable for many uses! Previous attendees have customised their designs for a hallway tidy, spice rack, jewellery stand, herb planter and bicycle tool tidy.

There will be a range of finishing techniques with a choice of oils to protect the wood and add depth to the grain. You will also have the opportunity to create leather fixings to hang your shelves. Learn how to cut, treat and burnish leather straps to add detail to the finished piece.

This course will be led by Lua Garcia who studied a BA in Furniture Making and Product Design at the Cass and now works as a designer/maker for homes and interiors.
