Saturday – Leatherworking 10am-12.30pm
                      Jesmonite Casting 1.30-4pm

The weekend will begin with an introduction to Leatherworking. Ellen Galloway from egallowayleatherdesign will teach you how to create your very own personalised credit card case. You will learn about the basic techniques of traditional saddlery, including leather preparation. You’ll have the chance to try double stitching, hand-burnishing and embossing.

We also supply you with an information pack with details of specialist suppliers and further courses for those who want to take their skills further.

After a break for lunch you will join designer Daniela Rubino and learn how to cast terrazzo effect coasters using Jesmonite.  Jesmonite is a versatile gypsum-based resin and is non-toxic making it safe to work with. Design your colour palette, then learn how to mix and add pigment to Jesmonite making the chips to cast into the mixture. Finally you will sand and finish your drinks coaster, producing two coasters to take home with you, with felt pads to finish the design.

Sunday – Woodwork Machinery Taster: Chopping Board, 11 – 3.30pm

Sunday will begin with an introduction to woodwork machinery, taught by woodworker and furniture maker Emma Chesterman. You will be shown how to use a range of workshop machinery and equipment. Following a talk on different types and uses of hardwood, you’ll then be able to select your material from our in-house timber store, and design your very own chopping board. With support and guidance from the tutor, you’ll then use our workshop equipment to make your object – providing you with a beautiful personalised project to take home with you.

All materials will be provided.
