Second Release Kit Kites

More Kite Kits available for Waltham Forest Residents

We’re delighted to be taking part in Waltham Forest’s Virtual Culture programme with our  Kit Kite project.

The first 500 have now been delivered, but don’t worry if you have missed out, we have 500 more to send out! Thanks to further funding from the Barbican, this follow up batch of kites celebrates this year’s reimagining of the festival that was due to take place in Lloyd Park – Walthamstow Garden Party In The Air’.

You can now visit our Kit Kite Gallery to have a look at some of the first batch of kites and be inspired by our professional makers. There is also a How To Video to help you construct yours.

From Wednesday 1st July, if you’re a resident of Waltham Forest, you’ll be able to sign up here for a specially designed kite kit here on our website giving you the tools and materials to build your own kite. Inspired by Japanese kite making traditions, this simple Kimono (sode) kite is made using a lashed stick frame, introducing traditional fastening techniques and light weight parachute material.

We challenge you to design, construct and fly your own. Channel your message to the world, dedicate it to your hero and showcase your design skills.  You’re never too old for kites, so whether you build one for yourself, a friend, or come together as a team, register online from the 1st -12th July and we’ll deliver it to your door.  Kits are free, limited to one per household, but we’re also raising money for local charity Mind Waltham Forest  so if you’re able to make a £1 donation that would be great, you can do this when you register for your kite. But be quick there’s only limited kits available!
