Blackhorse Members at LDF
Blackhorse member and designer Matteo Fogale will be taking part in the Matter of Stuff Second Life exhibition at Sketch, a presentation of experimental new works made from a single raw material – cylindrical Burbridge pine dowels. The dowels were originally used for an installation by Matter of Stuff at Kings Cross in 2018. By commissioning designers to re-use and re-imagine this material they hope to make an ongoing statement about the possibilities of sustainable design, upcycling and waste avoidance. Matteo Fogale has collaborated with stylist and costume designer Emma Archer to create two screens, using the dowel together with fabric. Other works in Second Life include light sculptures, a bench and a walled installation all using the re-purposed dowels, on show from 14th September until November 2019.
Matteo is also the curator for Poetic Forms with Uruguay XXI – a showcase of Uruguayan design talent all centred around the poet and Uruguayan literary icon Juana de Ibarbourou. Poetry, furniture, craft and textiles inspired by the poet’s work will be on show at the London Design Fair from 19th – 22nd September.
You can also catch Blackhorse member and designer Richard Evans of Richcraft Furniture at 100% Design – the UK’s largest architecture, design and interiors tradeshow. Richard will be showcasing his high end furniture and lighting products at stand E20D in the emerging brands space from 18th – 21st September.
You may know Studio Squig from our Spoon Carving course here at the workshop, but this week they’ll be at London Design Fair presenting their jewellery and Jesmonite cast lighting. Visit them at stand 7.27 from 19th – 22nd September.
Following London Design Festival, workshop residents Marc Wood Studio will be exhibiting his lighting designs at Decorex – an interior design event at Olympia London, 6th – 9th October. They will be presenting two new lighting collections as well as his established products. They have also been invited to create a sculptural lighting installation above the bar area of the show to highlight our crystal glass lighting, which is handmade in Bohemia and London.
London Design Festival runs from 16th – 21st September across London venues.
