It’s going to be a Blackhorse take-over at this year’s Walthamstow Garden Party as we’ve been asked to curate the Useful & Beautiful Makers Tent for the weekend festival. We’ll be presenting BODY BUILDERS: an experimental production lab of anatomical accessories that plans to release a new wave of human hybrids into the festival.
We’re inviting applications to create this summer’s collection of reactive festival fashion, activated by the wearer’s body movement. Think extendable arms, altered vision goggles, creaking mechanical joints, pogo stick legs, hide and seek faces and retractable Pinocchio noses. These might be created through simple mechanics, programmed through simple electronics or designed to generate sound or enhance movement.
We’ll be partnering with A New Direction and Create Jobs to work with local young people, providing them with practical experience of delivering a public activity, and an insight into the world of design, making and event management. Each maker will be paired with a young person (supported by the Create Jobs team) who will assist the workshop and give practical support throughout the weekend.
