Welcome to the Forest

This weekend sees the launch party of Waltham Forest as the first London Borough of Culture and everyone is invited!

Welcome to the Forest will be a celebration of light and sound taking place over three nights from Friday 11th – Sunday 13th January, 6 – 9.30pm.

Walthamstow Town Hall will act as a backdrop to Into the Forest, a film that tells the story of the borough through the eyes of it’s diverse community, with a soundtrack from award-winning musician and producer Talvin Singh. The high energy experience promises to be a visual feast. Local electronic duo Addictive TV will also be presenting Welcome to the Forest, a unique piece of music that samples audio and video from Walthamstow’s rich musical talent.

Your journey continues along Forest Rd, which will be transformed into a neon-lit winter carnival by festival curators Continental Drifts and local legend God’s Own Junkyard. Arriving at Lloyd Park you will experience Nest, an epic light installation from Marshmallow Laser Feast with music by composer Erland Cooper.

This weekend’s launch will kick-start a year of cultural events throughout the borough including our project ATOMIC 50 – Time Travels in Tin created with Abigail Conway. This immersive experience will take you and your children to a ghost tin factory in Leyton where the tools of the manufacturing age of Waltham Forest that have lain dormant are waiting to be picked up again in a exciting series of workshops and immersive theatre. Tickets will be available to buy at the end of January, join the ATOMIC 50 mailing list to be first in the know.
